Last Tango in Paris was not one of Bertolucci’s abstract sexual theorems but an intimate and detailed portrait of human carnality, dominated by the pervasive lust and persuasive confusion of the lost American portrayed by Marlon Brando, in one of his greatest roles. If you are a fan of Pasolini, then you will appreciate Bertolucci. Like most of the earlier Neorealists, both were Marxists who sought to combine a passion for politics with a passion for cinema.
